The Growth Venture Co-Investment Fund (GVCF) team operates within BDC Capital and is focused on growing and scaling the next generation of Canadian venture-backed champions. Currently investing out of the GVCF II 350M$ growth stage fund, our participations range from $5M to 25M in late stage (>$10M in revenues) venture capital backed companies in Canada, across a broad range of technology sectors. The GVCF team currently manages 26 active late-stage companies. Total AUM is over 500M$.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the managing partner of the Growth Venture Co-Investment Fund and working collaboratively with partners, associates and analysts, the Associate is an integral member of the BDC Capital GVCF team and is involved in all aspects of the investment and portfolio management process.
They will participate in the review of investment opportunities and assist in managing an existing legacy portfolio and new investments for all of the funds we manage.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Contribute to due diligence for new and/or existing investment opportunities by conducting research and analysis on markets, financial forecasts, management, competition, etc. and follow-up on investments using appropriate databases, customer interaction, internet sites, research reports and other investment resources
Assist in account updates by providing financial, forecasting and statistical analysis and bringing potential issues to partners’ attention
Ensure that new and existing investments files are properly documented (on initial investments, reinvestments and exits), including financial analysis and forecasting
Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of data by developing and maintaining appropriate information resources and contacts on industries, markets and business trends and keeping abreast of significant developments and activities in the venture capital and innovation communities
Ensure that the investment research files, business plans and other information collected by GVC Fund are maintained in conformity with BDC’s policies and procedures
Monitor the investment portfolio and individual companies by providing financial, forecast and statistical analysis to ensure timely responsiveness to strategic issues within the funds
Support other GVC Fund team members across the full lifecycle of an investment
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Intellectual curiosity, solid analytical and synthesis skills, ability to assess the merits of new technologies, size and adoption rates of new markets and competitive forces faces when introducing new products
Possesses high energy towards work and self-development
Ability to work under pressure, deal with abstract concepts, an unstructured environment and multi-tasking
Ability to prepare financial forecasts, advanced financial models and pro-forma financial statements
Strong communication capabilities, including the ability to produce and deliver clear and concise oral and written presentations in English

Education and relevant work experience combine the following:
Bachelor’s degree in either Business Administration, Commerce, Science or Engineering.
5 years of experience in venture capital, investment banking, private equity or a related investment field.
CPA, CFA, an asset.
MBA or other graduate degree in a business-related discipline is an asset.
