We are banking at another level.

Choosing BDC as your employer means working in a healthy, inclusive, and skilled workplace that puts forward the best conditions to bring together unique teams where employees are empowered to act. It also means being at the centre of ambitious economic and financial projects to see further and to do things differently, to fuel the success of Canadian entrepreneurs.

Choosing BDC as your employer also means:

  • Flexible and competitive benefits, including an Employee Savings and Investment Plan where BDC matches part of your voluntary contributions, a Defined Benefit Pension Plan, a $750 wellness and health care spending account, to name a few

  • In addition to paid vacation each year, five personal days, sick days as necessary, and our offices are closed from December 25 to January 1

  • A hybrid work model that truly balances work and personal life

  • Opportunities for learning, training and development, and much more...

BDC is a Crown Corporation and the only bank devoted exclusively to entrepreneurs. It provides access to financing, capital, and advisory services to help Canadian businesses grow and succeed. For over 75 years, BDC's purpose has been to support entrepreneurs in all industries and at all stages of growth.

BDC Capital is the investment arm of BDC, serving as a strategic partner to Canada’s most innovative and high-potential firms. With over $6 billion under management, BDC Capital offers a full spectrum of risk capital, from seed investments to flexible growth capital to support Canadian entrepreneurs who wish to scale their businesses into global champions. More information can be found at

BDC Growth Equity Partners (GEP) is the growth equity and private equity division within BDC Capital that focuses on equity investments of a significant minority ownership stake in leading Canadian mid-market businesses. Since its formation in 2016, GEP has expanded to a national team of 18 investment professionals managing a growing portfolio of 32 direct equity investments across a range of industries.

GEP recently launched its third investment fund of $300 million in 2024, bringing the total amount under management to almost $900 million, all of which is aimed at empowering Canadian entrepreneurs to accelerate their growth strategies and scale into global champions.

With such increasing growth, GEP is seeking a Principal to join its team in Vancouver! The successful candidate will work in small transaction teams and gain significant knowledge and experience across numerous industries and deal structures, while being an active contributor to the success of the team and organization.

Here's what the challenges of a typical week look like:

  • Collaborate in the evaluation and assessment of new and follow-on investments including the process of sourcing and screening new investments, and taking a leadership role in direct and third-party due diligence, performing industry research and providing support to existing investee companies.

  • Conduct business plan reviews, manage communications with entrepreneurs, management teams, and financial advisors, and prepare initial investment thesis, memoranda and recommendations to pursue or decline investment opportunities.

  • Conduct research and analysis on markets, ecosystems, financial forecasts, management, competition, among others. This involves talking to competitors and clients, analyzing research reports, interviewing and gathering information from industry experts, working with technical consultants to evaluate business models and technologies, and building valuation models, financial forecasts, comparable and precedent transaction analyses, and sensitivity analyses.

  • Work closely with senior management of investee companies to support certain strategic and tactical initiatives at each investee company, including a role as Board Observer in certain companies.

  • Provide internal portfolio management support by proactively monitoring performance, providing financial, forecasting and statistical analyses, identifying potential opportunities and risks, and working alongside senior management to develop governance and reporting.

  • Participate actively in the alignment, review and investment decisions for GEP nationally.

  • Assist in managing the deal pipeline and portfolio dashboard, producing quarterly/semi-annual reports, providing financial analysis on the overall portfolio and supporting the Partners and Managing Partner with internal presentations.

  • Take ownership of the deal submission process through BDC’s CRM and proprietary internal platform, including developing superior knowledge on BDC processes, procedures and directives.

  • Attend trade shows, investment conferences, and other events pertinent to business development to build a relevant network of contacts and increase market visibility of GEP nationally.

  • Train, mentor and coach other junior members on the investment team, fostering a culture of learning and development and helping build a high performing team environment built on trust, collaboration, and high aspirations.

With outstanding dynamism and integrity, the ideal candidate will be an integral part of the investment team and will provide support throughout the entire deal process, gaining direct exposure to sourcing and reviewing deals, completing due diligence, negotiating legal agreements, creating value through post-closing initiatives and collaboration with portfolio companies, and so much more.

If you can answer YES to the following questions, you may be just the person we are looking for:

  • Do you have a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration or a related field, and even better, a professional designation, with distinguished academic performance?

  • Do you have seven to ten years of experience in investment banking, private equity, equity research, strategic consulting, corporate development, transaction services or corporate finance?

  • Are you an expert in LBO modelling and do you have strong analytical, statistical, business valuation, research and accounting skills?

  • Do you have good knowledge of the private equity and debt financing markets?

  • Do you have experience in mergers and acquisitions, and conducting business, commercial, and financial due diligence?

  • Are you self-motivated, detail-oriented and have a constant thirst for knowledge about business and entrepreneurs?

  • Are you comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and challenging status quo, recommending change, and adopting best practices?

If you are curious, a team player with a positive attitude and keen to join a high-performing close-knit team where you can have an impact, apply today!
