Job Summary
The Senior Manufacturing Process Engineer will lead the innovation, development, and scale-up of advanced silicon wafer fabrication and interposer processes, with a focus on novel deposition techniques, etch processes, and wafer-level integration for innovative datacenter hardware platforms.
This role is responsible for defining and implementing scalable, manufacturable processes from concept through high-volume production, working closely with R&D, equipment vendors, and fabrication partners. The position requires hands-on technical expertise, creative problem-solving, and the ability to rapidly industrialize new wafer-level processes.
Key Responsibilities
Innovative Process Development & Manufacturing Scale
- Invent, develop, and industrialize novel silicon wafer fabrication and deposition processes.
- Develop scalable, high-yield manufacturing processes for device architectures, layouts, and wafer-level integration.
- Rapidly prototype and iterate on etch recipes, deposition films, materials, and process sequences to accelerate learning and scale.
- Define process windows, design rules, and manufacturability guidelines to ensure robust and reproducible production.
Manufacturing Scale-Up & Fab / Partner Engagement
- Lead the transition of innovative wafer processes from lab/pilot stages into internal fabs or external foundry partners.
- Support pilot builds, line bring-up, and volume ramp, ensuring speed, yield, and cost efficiency.
- Drive improvements in process capability (Cp/Cpk), defect density, and cycle time.
- Serve as the technical owner for silicon wafer and interposer processes across internal and external partners.
Equipment, Tooling & Process Enablement
- Specify, qualify, and optimize wafer fabrication equipment, including etching tools, deposition systems, and metrology.
- Partner with vendors to co-develop process modules, hardware modifications, and automation solutions.
- Lead equipment acceptance, process qualification, and continuous performance optimization.
Quality, Yield & Continuous Improvement
- Establish SPC, control plans, and reaction plans for wafer-level processes.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for yield loss, reliability risks, and process excursions.
- Support wafer-level qualification, reliability testing, and engineering change execution.
- Apply structured problem-solving tools (DOE, FMEA, 8D, Six Sigma) for data-driven process improvement.
Cross-Functional & External Collaboration
- Collaborate with R&D, Design, Packaging, Assembly, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to deliver scalable manufacturing solutions.
- Support sourcing decisions via technical evaluation of materials, equipment, and fab partners.
- Contribute to technology roadmaps for next-generation wafer fabrication and interposer capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in silicon wafer fabrication, semiconductor process development, or advanced deposition processes.
- Proven track record developing scalable, manufacturable wafer fabrication processes.
- Experience working with external fabs, foundries, or advanced manufacturing partners.
- Strong ability to rapidly industrialize innovative wafer-level processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with silicon interposers, TSVs, or wafer-level integration.
- Background in etch process development, film deposition, or advanced patterning techniques.
- Familiarity with wafer-level automation, inline metrology, and advanced inspection systems.
Key Competencies
- Process innovation and invention, with focus on deposition and wafer-level integration
- Development of scalable, manufacturable processes
- Hands-on wafer fab and interposer expertise
- Fab and supplier technical leadership
- Data-driven decision-making, yield, reliability, and cost optimization
