REPORTS TO: VP Finance AJ Nonwovens

SUMMARY:

The Site Controller for AstenJohnson Nonwovens in Hampton, NH serves as a key financial leader for the site, partnering closely with Finance, Sales and Operation leaders to drive profitability, performance, efficiency, and cost control. This role oversees all plant-level financial activities, including gross margin analysis, financial reporting, annual budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, inventory management, and internal controls. The Site Controller ensures the Hampton nonwovens operation has accurate financial information to support decision-making and long-term business success, while aligning with AstenJohnson corporate policies and goals.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Team leadership:
    • Oversee site accounting personnel, ensuring accurate daily transactions, timely close processes, and professional development.
    • Promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between the Hampton site and corporate/shared service finance teams.

  • Financial leadership and partnership:
    • Act as the primary financial advisor to the Hampton site leadership team.
    • Provide clear financial insights supporting production planning and capital investments.
    • Translate operational data into actionable financial recommendations for improving cost performance.
    • Support sales, operations and corporate finance with periodic reviews of site performance and strategic initiatives.

  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning:
    • Lead the annual budgeting process for the Hampton nonwovens site, including labor, materials, overhead, and capital requirements.
    • Develop and maintain rolling forecasts that incorporate demand trends, raw material changes, and operational constraints.
    • Conduct monthly variance analysis, explaining drivers and partnering with operations to implement corrective actions.
    • Evaluate and identify opportunities to exceed plan. E.g. Buying and Selling fiber, reduce/optimize our product portfolio, optimize our strategy around energy, managing waste etc.

  • Cost Accounting and Inventory Management:
    • Oversee standard cost development for the site
    • Monitor key manufacturing cost drivers
    • Ensure accurate raw material, WIP, and finished goods inventory valuation, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes.
    • Collaborate with purchasing to validate product costing and support pricing or margin analysis for Hampton-produced materials.

  • Financial Reporting and Compliance:
    • Prepare site-level financial statements, KPI dashboards, and operational reports for both site leadership and corporate finance.
    • Maintain strong internal controls aligned with AstenJohnson’s accounting policies and audit standards.
    • Ensure compliance with corporate approval processes for spending, capex, and contract commitments.
    • Accurately track and report capital expenditures and support ROI and post-project reviews.
    • Create strategies to help the business optimize and control working capital.
    • Support safety and sustainability initiatives through financial tracking of related investments and outcomes.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related discipline; CPA/CMA preferred.
  • 5–10+ years of progressive finance experience, with strong exposure to manufacturing environments—nonwovens or textiles experience a plus.
  • Solid background in cost accounting, inventory control, and manufacturing performance analysis.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (Oracle or similar); experience with manufacturing modules is highly desirable.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate financial insights into operational actions.
  • High attention to detail with a continuous improvement mindset.
