Principle duties and essential functions:

The primary responsibility of the Graduate Student Intern is to engage in leading edge interdisciplinary research and lab work at Adtran SE Center for Integrated Circuit Design in Berlin, Germany. A wide range of topics and disciplines are included, dependent on the candidate’s expertise and research direction.

  • Design and measurement of optoelectronic devices in silicon, II-V compounds, and other optical materials

  • Design, development and experimental proof of concept of advanced packaging concepts for optical transceivers

  • Design and measurement of CMOS and SiGe RFICs in leading foundry processes

  • Development of DSP and advanced optical transport systems

  • Other areas that may be of interest to both parties, with approval of graduate advisor

Knowledge, skills and experience required

  • Graduate students attending doctorate programs at leading Universities within European Union and United Kingdom

  • Already earned MS or BS degree

  • Ideally (but not mandatory) within 2 years of expected PhD graduation

  • Background in electrical engineering, optical communication, semiconductor manufacturing, packaging, and other related areas

  • Knowledge in using electrical equipment, such as VNA, high speed RF cabling, electrical probes, voltage supplies, bias tees, etc.

  • Knowledge of fiber optics, optical communication principles

  • Good understanding of mechanical and thermal properties of materials
