We are currently looking for a highly motivated and creative Senior Engineer Advanced Technology (M/F/D) to shape with us the future of optical communication and fiber optic sensing technology by joining our Advanced Technology team in Meiningen, Germany. Principle duties and essential functions
Develop innovative solutions in the fields of coherent optical transmission, optical networks, and fiber sensing
Lead and participate in research and advanced development projects
Demonstrate Adtran’s technical excellence at conferences/events
Together with external partners, acquire publicly funded projects
Cooperate with customers and the research community in funded research projects
Organize and carry out laboratory system experiments and field-trials
Evaluation of novel technologies for optical transmission systems and fiber sensing techniques leading to new Adtran products
In addition, the Senior Engineer Advanced Technology (M/F/D) is responsible for the following tasks:
Consult R&D and PLM teams on novel technologies and solutions
Support the transfer of research R&D results into product development
Secure the business of Adtran by contributing to intellectual property rights on novel technologies and product concepts
Drive and discuss technology trends with strategic customers and vendors
Knowledge, skills and experience required
PhD, Diploma/Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or related area
3 to 5 years of experience in optical telecommunication R&D
Profound understanding of fiber optics, optical networks and digital communications

Hands-on experience in several of the following areas:
Experimental setups with optical components and RF equipment
Modulation, coding and digital signal processing
Modelling of optical communication systems and components
Development of prototype system equipment and field trials
Distributed optical fiber sensing
Solid programming capabilities
Excellent presentation, communication and scientific writing skills
Fluent in oral and written English
Preferably experience in acquisition and management of collaborative research projects
Regular international travel to project meetings
Opportunity to travel to internal conferences for presenting new achievements
