Adtran’s Advanced Technology team develops the networking technology of the future and initiates their transition into Adtran’s products.
There is an opportunity for a highly motivated and creative engineer or physicist to join our Advanced Technology team in Berlin and to work in the area of WiFi home networking and optical access technology.
We are currently looking for a highly motivated Senior Engineer Advanced Technology (M/F/D) to join our Advanced Technology team in Berlin, Germany. Principle duties and essential functions
Develop innovative solutions and functionality in the field of WiFi home networking, meshed WiFi and enterprise WiFi
Lead and participate in research and advanced development projects
Demonstrate Adtran’s technical excellence at conferences/events
Together with external partners, acquire publicly funded projects
Cooperate with customers and the research community in funded research projects
Organize and carry out laboratory system experiments and field-trials
Evaluation of novel optical technologies for optical transmission systems related to new Adtran products
Supplementary Tasks
In addition the Senior Engineer Advanced Technology (M/F/D) is responsible for the following tasks:
Consult R&D and product management teams on novel technologies and solutions
Support the transfer of research R&D results into product development
Protect intellectual property rights on novel technologies and product concepts
Present and discuss technology directions with strategic customers
Drive technology strategy with strategic vendors
Examine 3rd party and supplier solutions
Represent Adtran in industry forums and standardization bodies
Regular international travel to conferences, project and customer meetings required
Knowledge, skills and experience required
PhD, Diploma/Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or related area
3 to 5 years of experience in WiFi R&D
Profound understanding of digital communications, wireless transmission and propagation
Detailed WiFi knowledge (standards, chipsets, physical layer functionality, MAC layer)

Hands-on experience in several of the following areas:
Experimental setups with WiFi and RF equipment
Modulation, coding and digital signal processing
RF channel modelling, MIMO processing
Simulation of physical layer transmission
Solid programming skills
Be able to develop prototypes and work with developers on implementation of novel technologies and functionality using embedded Linux platforms
Experience with IEEE standardization, especially IEEE 802.11
Excellent presentation, communication and scientific writing skills
Fluent in oral and written English
Experience in acquisition and management of collaborative research projects
